The following coaches provide private lessons to club members and to the general public. Private lessons are available by contacting the coach using their email provided in their profile below. Private lesson fees are set by the coach and are paid to him directly.

Profiles

John Elliott obtained his Provincial (Level 2) Technical and Practical Training in 2014, with the National Coaching Certification Program and is an accredited Badminton Ontario Coach. John’s coaching experience includes developing training programs and coaching Elementary Schools, Secondary Schools, University teams, and private students of all ages.

John stresses the importance of students learning to assist other students and encourages parental involvement on and off the court, in order to share the benefits and enjoyment of badminton with players of all levels, whether they play just for fun or want to become an elite athlete.

Clovis McLaughlin obtained his Level 1 and Level 2 badminton coach training with the University of Windsor in 2016. His coaching experience includes coaching for elementary school , secondary school and college athletes across South / Western Ontario.


Clovis was the recipient of “the coach of the year” award certificate for 50 years of dedication to coaching the sport of badminton in 2019 and is a past Yonex brand ambassador sponsorship recipient.


Coaching experience include:

  • Working with the “Jump Start” program demonstrating badminton skills to elementary aged students across Ontario (ongoing)
  • Head Coach of St. Clair College badminton team (1991-2018)
  • Head Coach for E.J. Lajeuness Secondary School (2016- 2020)

Valliappan Padmanabhan is a Trained Provincial Coach – Level 2, with the National


Coaching Certification Program and is an accredited Badminton Ontario Coach.


Assistant Coach of Fanshawe College badminton team (2016-2023 ongoing)
Valliappan coaching experience includes developing training programs and coaching Secondary Schools, College Varsity Teams, and private students of all ages. Introduced the sport of badminton to beginners.Train High school students to participate in school tournament (TVRA)

Saj Malik is a nationally renowned badminton coach. He has coached for over 30 years and has developed some of Canada’s top badminton talent who have represented Canada internationally. Outside of coaching, Saj has been one of Canada’s top players for decades and has won over 15 national titles.

Saj’s coaching technique is unique to each student and focuses on bringing the best out of a player based on their individuality.

  • Mike Beres – No. 19 World Ranking XD, Canada’s National Team. Represented Canada at the Olympic Games.
  • Val Loker – No. 19 World Ranking XD, Canada’s National Team. Represented Canada at the Olympic Games. Val now has her own badminton academy and is the head coach at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton.
  • Lance Hunter – No. 2 in Canada MD.
  • Kyle Hunter – No. 2 in Canada MD. Member of Canada’s National Team. Represented Canada at the Olympic Games.
  • Beth Richardson – Head badminton pro at Glenco Club in Calgary.
  • Laura McKerrall, Erin Parkes, Cara Parkes, Irtaza Malik, Liam Parkes, and Greg Herman were some of Saj’s other notable students.
